A church in Kaunas, the foodcar and my motel bad smell

LITHUANIA OPEN 2007
My first job as Range Master Few weeks before Lithuania open 2007, I look on my calendar and I look on the webpage of Lithuania open 2007, and I so the best shooter is coming to this match, The world champion in Open Eric Grauffel then Saul Kirsch then from Czech Republic Martin Kamenicek, and production was Adam Tyc also from Czech Republic then STI team, from Denmark Ralf Jensen, Lars Hagemann and Jack Rømer and many more, so I send a e-mail and ask if they need a RO for this match, and yes they need one more CRO, 2 days before they call me up and told me the RM is sick, if its ok with me to help them with the match, ok no problem. So Thursday the 12 of July was my take of day for the Lithuania open 2007, I arrive in Vilnius around 12 am Rolandas pick me up in the airport, we drive to Kaunas, but on the way we was so close to have a car accident I have never been so close to go to heaven before time as this moment, but we survive. We arrive on the range around 2 pm. MD Mr. Saulius Rutkauskas came and welcome me to Lithuania, and told me about the problem with theirs RM, and ask me if I want to take the job as RM, it was a little surprise for me, it was my first job as RM and then outside Denmark, but I told them I will be happy to help you with this, and also to help them to have a good match. I shoot 8 stages on Thursday and 10 stages Friday, it was the worst match I have been shooting this year, my time was going to hours and my score was very bad. After the first day on the range it was time to eat, we went to a big restaurant, we eat outside I got my first local dish Saslykas marinate pork on a big spear, grilled on charcoal with beer, served with tomato sauce and rice after few hours I was ready for a nice long sleep I went to my motel Kaviné Baras I ad 2 night in this place before they move me to a better place in Kaunas city á nice place.Well someone should pick me up next morning 08:30 but they knocking on my door 07:30 why so early, well I find out why Lithuania is one hour ahead,ummm.We went to another big restaurant for breakfast very nice, all the food was place on ice platform, it was the best breakfast I had for a long time, then ummm how can I tell the man there pick me up and drive a long way, I forgot my gun at the motel, all the way back again and then back to the range. Well rest of the stage has to finish and it was the same like yesterday bad bad. After the prematch my time as RM start, first think we have to put up was the crono, to have a taste if its working, and it works so its ready for tomorrow.
On the first match day: First shoot start at 9 am, and all was ready at 9 o’clock, the whole day run with out any major problem, so it was a good day for me. I was on the range working from stage to stage to check if everything was ok, a little problem on stage with the wood in front of the plate, it took some time to change it, but the shooter was a good help here. On the lunch break I got Lithuania specialty from the car kitchen Saslykas. After lunch again bag to the stages have a good talk with all the shooter, they told me very nice stages I report that back to MD he was very happy. Well after a long day I went back to my motel for a quick shower and the a taxi to Kaunas for dinner.
Second and last match day: First shoot start at 8am. And again no major problem only on stage 6 I have to calibrate one popper and it fall down bad for the shooter one miss. On stage 16 we got a little problem, you have to pull a handle with your weak hand and shoot the target with your strong hand and sometimes the target stock so you was able to shoot the target with two hands, the you have to get a re-shoot. There was some of the shooter there thought some shooter shoot the target with two hands and don’t get re- shoot, so Saul Kirsch was a little angry about it because he heard Eric Grauffel shoot it like that and have a good score and a good time, but no Eric got a re- shoot and even have one miss on that target, so did Martin and I talk to Saul and the two shooter, so after that every one was ok and happy again.
After a good match we have to make the result and for the first time I have to sign the entire diploma, after few hours we went to the sport pub for the prize ceremony, it was a hell of a party. So after a very nice week end I can tell hopfull this was not my last time in Lithuania, its a very nice place a very nice shooting range insite a big forest a old army bace. a big thanks to Saulius Rutkauskas and Vaidas Sabaliauskas, it was a honour to work for you and hope to see you again somewhere.
